Are you excited to know whether you can invest all your expectations and happiness on any booking site?

Indeed, you need to be quite cautious because even well-designed flight booking websites can easily mess up your trip.

Approximately 90% of travelers usually research the best flight booking sites. Of them all, 82% typically end up booking online.

Unfortunately, some travelers usually end up disappointed and frustrated after choosing the worst booking sites.

The best flight booking sites that you should consider using in 2024 are:

    • The Bottom Line

    1. Google Flights

screenshot of the Google Flights best flight booking sites homepage

Google Flights is a massive search hub, but it’s not always the champion regarding airfare deals. It’s lightning-fast, showing results as you type and highlighting the cheapest days to fly on a nifty calendar.

Moreover, you can easily check price trends and find the lowest fare for your chosen dates using its “Explore” feature.

Unfortunately, despite its speed and cool features, Google sometimes falls short on price accuracy. It doesn’t always nail down the best deal. That is why you will occasionally find it pricier than other sites.

    Pros

    • Lightning-fast searches
    • Handy calendar for picking the cheapest days
    • Detailed filters
    • You can include or exclude airlines and airports
    • Shows in-flight amenities.

    Cons

    • Sometimes pricey

    2. Hotwire

screenshot of the Hotwire best flight booking sites homepage

Hotwire is now back after undergoing some dramatic changes. However, don’t rely on it for last-minute bookings.

While Hotwire is average when booking in advance, it often misses the mark on last-minute deals. It frequently shows higher fares than competitors.

Besides making its customers miss out on the potentially cheaper options, Hotwire can overlook nearby airports.

Again, unlike Google Flights, its filters aren’t the greatest. The feature lacks options like maximum flight time or layover duration.

    Pros

    • Sometimes offers decent prices on early bookings.

    Cons

    • It is not reliable for last-minute flights
    • Ignore budget airlines.

    3. Expedia

    screenshot of the Expedia homepage

Expedia is a powerhouse when it comes to booking flights. However, its strengths go beyond just that.

They have a new One Key rewards program through which you can earn rewards and climb tiers for elite status.

From this strategy, again, you can unlock perks like hotel savings and upgrades. Plus, bundling flights with hotels can lead to significant savings, although discounts may vary.

    Pros

    • Offers rewards through the One Key program.
    • Elite status unlocks perks like hotel savings and upgrades.
    • Bundling flights with hotels can save you money.

    Cons

    • Actual discounts when bundling may vary.

    4. Capital One Travel

screenshot of the Capital One Travel homepage

For Capital One cardholders, Capital One Travel might just be the ultimate flight booking site.

Not only can you earn 5x Capital One miles on flights booked through the portal, but you can also enjoy up to $300 off travel annually.

Additionally, Capital One Travel partners with Hopper to provide smart booking recommendations backed up with credits if prices drop.

    Pros

    • Cardholders earn 5x Capital One miles on flights.
    • Up to $300 off travel annually.
    • Smart booking recommendations through a partnership with Hopper.

    Cons

    • Site might be confusing with many rewards

    5. Kiwi

screenshot of the Kiwi best flight booking sites homepage

Are you looking for unconventional ways to save money on flights? Kiwi might have the solution.

This best site for flight booking can significantly reduce travel costs when you explore all possible options, including split-ticket bookings.

Just be aware of the risks of booking separate tickets, as missed connections could cause issues.

    Pros

    • Offers unconventional ways to save money.
    • Can significantly reduce travel costs.

    Cons

    • Risks involved in booking separate tickets.

    6. Hopper

    screenshot of the Hopper homepage

Hopper has its ups and downs when it comes to finding affordable flights. It’s decent with advance-purchase APEX fares, often offering slightly better prices than average.

However, its performance takes a hit when it comes to last-minute bookings.

The drawback here is that it often displays higher prices compared to competitors. Interestingly, Hopper shines brightest with unconventional itineraries like Dallas-to-Dubai.

While Hopper still offers advice on optimal booking dates based on price trends, it’s stripped down compared to before.

Previously rich in features like historical prices and baggage fees, now it mainly redirects users to airline pages, albeit sometimes with broken links.

Some features persist, like the color-coded calendar highlighting the cheapest travel days for two months. Sorting options are limited, with just a few filters available.

Hopper categorizes results into Basic, Standard, Enhanced, Premium, and Luxury, catering to various traveler preferences.

    Pros

    • Consistently offers decent fares for bookings.
    • Provides advice on optimal booking dates based on historical trends.

    Cons

    • Limited filtering options.
    • High pressure for add-on services.
    • Poor performance in last-minute fare offerings.

    7. Priceline

    screenshot of the priceline homepage

Priceline has experienced some transformations in this case and has regained its position in the middle of the list after being left out.

It has greatly enhanced its filters, providing consumers with daily fare differences and adopting LCCs.

However, one area that remains its strength is the pricing, especially regarding last-minute fares. It’s considerably higher than those offered by other players, including Kiwi, and is even worse in value.

Another thing that Priceline does well is devise creative itineraries that will help you save money, such as the time it decided to add a layover to lower the price.

It also offers its famous “Express Deals,” where you specify your airports and dates.

Moreover,  the flight details are not disclosed until the purchase is made. This can reduce your cost by up to 40%, but normally, it is about 10%- 15%.

    Pros

    • Improved filters and daily price comparisons.
    • Cost-effective itineraries.
    • Significant savings.

    Cons

    • Last-minute fares.
    • Limited transparency

    8. Tripadvisor

    screenshot of the Tripadvisor homepage

Tripadvisor offers consistent airfare results alongside its reputation as a platform for travel reviews. It includes nearby airports in searches and provides comprehensive filters for any trusted booking site.

On the negative aspect, TripAdvisor falls short compared to higher-ranked sites when finding the cheapest tickets, especially last-minute fares.

It also suffers from being slow and occasionally suggesting impractical itineraries.

    Pros

    • Decent prices
    • Include nearby airports in searches.

    Cons

    • Last-minute fares.
    • Slow website.

    9. CheapOAir

screenshot of the CheapOAir best flight booking sites homepage

CheapOAir stands out as the top OTA for last-minute airfares, often finding the best prices. However, its performance with advance-purchase fares is inconsistent, sometimes ranking lower than expected.

Annoying pop-ups and glitches plague the website, but it offers useful features like populated date-picker calendars and comprehensive airline cost charts.

    Pros

    • No last-minute airfares.
    • For alternative dates and airports.
    • Has cost-saving techniques.

    Cons

    • Slow website with annoying pop-ups.

    10. Momondo/Kayak

The best flight booking site for this year, according to the research results, is the site called Momondo.

There is a shift observed in the ranking of Momondo which fell to #6 last year but is now on the list again, probably due to its acquisition by Kayak.

While Momondo and Kayak deliver the same search outcomes, I place Momondo ahead of its competitors because it is easier to navigate.

Out of the seven airlines, Momondo had the lowest prices six times, second lowest four times with the prices only being higher twice.

Besides, it offers a price comparison for flights, and it has the most extensive list of filters among the competitors. It allows you to exclude results from doubtful OTAs or choose or remove certain plane types.

Kiwi and Google also offer the baggage fee inclusion feature with the same level of efficiency as Momondo but have higher basic fares.

While Momondo was initially just an aggregator, it has now added its own OTA and always informs users about the direct booking option, which can be activated in the filters sidebar.

The results page of Momondo is also packed with data such as bar graphs representing price fluctuations for a broad date range and customer satisfaction ratings for any booking agency.

Similar to Skyscanner, Momondo also provides color-coded calendars for booking that help the user know which days are cheaper and which days are expensive to fly.

It also offers “Fare insights,” which are analyses of price fluctuations and information on when it is most advantageous to book.

Momondo’s downsides include being slow and performing averagely on last-minute fares, where CheapOAir shines. However, Momondo is unmatched for overall airfare search needs.

    Pros

    • Competitive pricing.
    • Include baggage fees in price quotes.
    • Fare calendar graphs and price trend breakdowns.
    • Comparable pricing.

    Cons

    • OTA sellers may be unfamiliar

    Easy Flight Booking Tips

    Determine Your Travel Details

But before we review the list, let’s break down the planning process. Select your desired country and travel dates then decide which airports you want to begin and end your journey at. Do not leave out any other unique needs you may have to meet during the journey.

    Research and Compare Flights

With all the information in front of you, it is time to book a flight. More specifically, one can look into popular flight search engines, airline websites, and travel booking platforms to compare options.

This involves focusing on factors such as ticket prices and flight timings. Also, know the number of connecting flights and the airline’s credibility.

    Select Your Preferred Flight

Go to the booking page of the selected channel or the website of the airline to decide on the most appropriate flight to take

    Enter Passenger Information

On the booking page, there is a section where you must input the passenger information. This often contains the participants’ first and last names, passport numbers or other identifiers, email and phone numbers, and any other requirements.

    Choose Additional Services (if needed)

You may require additional services during the booking process. These can range from a choice of seats to an extra allowance, special meals during the flight, or travel insurance. Here are the choices provided; take whichever you prefer.

    Enter Payment Details

This usually involves providing your credit card information or using another accepted payment method. To protect your personal and financial information, ensure the booking page is secure (look for “https://” and the padlock symbol).

    Review and Confirm the Booking

As you are about to complete your reservation, you should briefly glance through the information. Verify the flight details, passenger names, flight cost, and any services you have opted for. After you have thoroughly checked everything to ensure that it is correct, go ahead and make your booking.

    Receive Booking Confirmation

After completing the booking process, you should receive a booking confirmation email or a booking reference number. Keep this information accessible for future reference or to manage your booking.

    Manage Your Booking (if needed)

If you need to make any changes or additions to your booking, you can log into the airline’s website or the booking platform you used. This might include modifying travel dates, adding or changing services, or updating passenger information.

    The Bottom Line

In conclusion, the selection of the most appropriate flight booking site can greatly determine the overall experience of the trip. Therefore, while checking on the advantages and disadvantages of every website,

for instance, Google Flights that provides quick searches and price trends, or Expedia with its One Key rewards, the booking process is likely to be efficient and affordable.

If you are in a hurry to book your flight tickets with CheapOAir or if you are adventurous to search for the unexplored ways to save money with Kiwi, then it is imperative to know about the pros and cons of both sites so that you can find the best deals for yourself.
